How to use the GBP currency converter
Exchange-rate data comes from Financial Modeling Prep (FMP). The time beside each quote belongs to that quote, not the last page refresh. Rates may update at different times, especially outside a currency’s active trading hours.
How to convert pounds to dollars
GBP amount × GBP/USD = USD amount
US dollars = pounds × the GBP/USD rate. To convert dollars to pounds, divide by that same rate. If you are given USD/GBP instead, use its reciprocal. Enter pounds, not pence: £1.50 is entered as 1.50. Display rounding does not change the rate used for the calculation.
Illustrative example, not a current quote: if £1 equals US$1.25, £100 equals US$125 and £10,000 equals US$12,500. In reverse, US$125 ÷ 1.25 equals £100. The live fields use the available FMP observation instead of this example rate.
Which pound exchange rates can I compare?
Compare British pounds with US dollars (USD), euros (EUR), yen (JPY), yuan (CNY), Singapore dollars (SGD), Hong Kong dollars (HKD), Australian dollars (AUD), Canadian dollars (CAD) and Swiss francs (CHF). For pounds to euros, choose EUR beside the target amount.
Enter pounds, rather than pence
Amounts on this page use GBP in pounds. Enter 1.50 for one pound and fifty pence. The default comparison is GBP to USD; choose a card to compare pounds with another currency. The grey reverse figure tells you how many pounds correspond to one unit of the other currency. It remains a unit rate when you change your amount.
London time, including daylight saving
Quote timestamps use the UK date format and Europe/London time. The displayed zone follows GMT or British Summer Time for the date of the quote. Intraday history has no confirmed source timezone, so its times remain labelled provider time. Daily history keeps its original observation date. A page refresh does not make an older quote current.
Currency conversion questions
How much is £100 in US dollars?
Choose GBP → USD and select 100 beneath the pounds field. The dollar result uses the displayed reference rate. To work backwards from a dollar budget, edit the USD field instead; the GBP field updates automatically. Check the observation time before using the estimate.
Why does the right chart axis run the other way?
The right axis shows the reciprocal: 1 divided by the left-axis value at the same height. As the forward rate rises, the reciprocal falls. The line represents one exchange rate, read in two directions.
Will I receive this rate at my bank?
Not necessarily. These are reference market observations, not executable offers. Banks and transfer services may apply a spread and fees. Compare their final amount and charges before exchanging money.
Are these guaranteed real-time pound rates?
No. The page checks for updates every 30 seconds while visible, but that does not guarantee a new market observation. Read the FMP quote timestamp in London time. Older observations and missing data are labelled; a bank or transfer service may offer a different rate.
